CHILDREN’S VILLAGE IS A MODEL OF EXCELLENCE IN INFANT, TODDLER, PRESCHOOL, AND SCHOOL-AGE CARE AND EDUCATION.

Children And Families Come First

Children’s Village is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. We focus on responding to the needs of the wonderfully diverse community of children and families we serve. We reach out to children of all backgrounds, including those whose circumstances—such as living in poverty and learning English as a second language—can undercut school success. Since our 1976 inception, we have educated thousands of young children and supported their families, always guided by the highest quality standards.

Setting The Standard Of Excellence

  • Quality matters. We know that high-quality early care and education does more than prepare children for school — it prepares them for life. Children’s Village is committed to the highest standard.

  • Established in 1976 as one of the first industry-related Pennsylvania-licensed child care programs in Center City Philadelphia.

  • Nationally accredited since 1996 by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Children’s Village recently (November 2022) earned a new five-year term of NAEYC reaccreditation, achieving exceptional scores. To learn more, visit NAEYC.org.

  • Continually awarded the highest rating, STAR 4A, by the state’s Keystone STARS initiative measuring quality early learning programs. To learn more, visit pakeys.org.

  • One of ten early childhood education programs nationwide distinguished for excellence in Engaging Diverse Families by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). To learn more, visit NAEYC.org.

  • Honored with a Pennsylvania’s Equity in Early Childhood Education Champion Award 2022. Children’s Village received the Silver level award. This distinction reflects Children’s Village’s commitment to equity in the early learning setting, which is made possible by the passion, dedication, and support of our families, staff, Board of Directors, and community partners.

  • Named as a Philadelphia Inquirer 2019 Diversity and Inclusion Winner in the category of Outstanding Equality Program. This awards program honors the region’s leaders impacting business with innovative diversity programs and inclusive workplace initiatives.

  • Home to passionate, exemplary staff. Most recently, preschool teacher Noelle Woytko was named a 2017 Terri Lynne Lokoff/Children’s TYLENOL ® National Child Care Teacher Award Winner and  Mary E. Graham, Executive Director, won PennAEYC 2015 VOICE Distinguished Career Award.

  • Through professional development workshops, our PQAS-certified administrators and teachers are sharing their expertise.

  • Our Nutrition Program offers healthy, well-balanced meals and snacks that are prepared daily in our on-site kitchen.

  • Extraordinary support from foundations and individuals has helped Children’s Village fully realize its vision to create Philadelphia’s first hands-on Learning Lab for education professionals within a high-quality early learning program. Specifically, The William Penn Foundation gave two previous Learning Lab-related grants, and its most recent funding supported classroom renovations, which we completed in June 2019.  The grant ensures our facilities best accommodate our professional development efforts and the needs of young learners.  The McLean Contributionship also awarded a grant for our new adult classrooms, which opened in spring 2018.  As a bonus, the space can be transformed into play area for our toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children.

Children’s Village:

  • Respects parents as children’s “primary teachers.” We learn from and support families.

  • Works to ensure that all children and families thrive; Children’s Village is an early learning advocate. We are a longstanding member of the Pennsylvania Child Care Association (PACCA). To learn more, visit PACCA.org.

  • Shares expertise. Many students of early care and education as well as those pursuing advanced degrees in other areas have served their internships at Children’s Village. Teachers and administrators from other early learning programs across the region turn to us as a resource.

  • Plans to achieve and maintain excellence. From selecting our curricula to assuring our sustainability, thoughtful and thorough planning keeps us on track. We are a working collaboration of volunteer Board members, administrators, teachers, parents, other volunteers, and community leaders — serving together to set goals and make program decisions that benefit children.

  • Committed to Transparency: Children’s Village has received the 2023 Candid Seal of Transparency, a leading symbol of transparency and accountability for non-profit information. To learn more, visit our Candid report page www2.guidestar.org.
