A Special Thank You to American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Local 6066

Ten members of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Local 6066 spent a recent Sunday assembling 303 school bags – one for each of our preschool and school-age students -- brimming with supplies.

In a special expression of support for families whose children have returned to in-person learning, AFT Local 6066 not only purchased all of the materials, including crayons, drawing and construction paper, notebooks, water color paint, markers, glue, and scissors, it also compensated members (all Children's Village staff) for their participation.

“We are incredibly grateful to Dawn Crawford, union President at Children’s Village, who serves as our Assistant Cook, for leading this wonderful effort and for the union members who rolled up their sleeves to put the special bags together. Many families are facing great financial challenges and this generous donation from AFT Local 6066 is an especially meaningful way to relieve some of the burden," says Mary Graham, Executive Director.
